Olifants River
The great Olifants River is a tributary of the Limpopo river, nourishing the Kruger National Park and forming the southern border of the Limpopo province. The river and surrounding area provides a home for hippopotamus, crocodiles and elephants, baboons, waterbuck, bushbuck and occasionally giraffes, who brave a water crossing.
The live animal cam is located at Naledi Game Lodge in the Balule Nature Reserve and captures incredible sightings from the wildlife stream.
When two species meet
Often enough, two species will cross paths on this large river. In this case, an elephant and a crocodile face off in a moment of confusion.
The elephant slowly approaches the crocodile and comes to a stop, investigating the situation. Elephants aren’t often intimidated.
Elephant warns crocodile
The elephant gives the crocodile a few warnings, splashing water with their trunk and taking big sloshing steps forward. The crocodile quickly understands what’s happening and starts to swim out of the elephant’s path.
The elephant, victorious, reaches the end of the river. The crocodile safe and swimming away.
